Catherine (Cathy) Coleman, R.N.,
O.C.N.,
CPHQ, MSN(c), is the very first MammaCare Specialist, having received her training
in 1982 while she was the nurse coordinator in the Breast Center at Children's Hospital
(now California Pacific Medical Center) in San Francisco. She has held numerous
leadership positions in the California Department of Health and Human Services, Cancer
Detection Section, and in the California Division of the American Cancer Society. In
the latter capacity, she co-directed a statewide volunteer training program called Special
Touch, which has won numerous awards. This program paved the way for a new direction
in breast health education and training and is based
primarily on the principles and
practices of MammaCare. She was the Associate Director of the Breast Center at
Long Beach Memorial Hospital in California from 1987 to 1991. She then
joined Salick Health Care, Inc. where she served as Vice President for Breast
Center Development until 1997. She is now the regional territory manager
in Northern California for BioLucent, Inc., makers of the Woman's Touch MammoPad.
Cathy is
also a principal and consultant in her own business, Coleman Breast Center Consultation
Services.
Cathy then
joined Salick Health Care, Inc. ( now Aptium Oncology) where she served as
Vice President for Breast Center Development until 1997. After a brief role
within a start up breast MRI company she became principal of her own
consulting business for 5 years until joining Lumetra in San Francisco in
2003. Lumetra is a healthcare consulting company whose mission is to improve
the quality, safety, efficiency, and integrity of healthcare by creating
dynamic solutions to better serve consumer delivery systems. At Lumetra,
Cathy is a senior healthcare consultant and subject matter expert in quality
improvement, breast cancer and breast center
development.
Cathy is a
nationally recognized authority on breast health and has been an advocate of MammaCare
since its creation. In her own words, "MammaCare is the gold standard in
manual breast examination." |
