Julia Merrill Jones, R.N., M.S.N., A.O.C.N.P, Breast Health Coordinator at the Breast Health Center at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord, NC, became a MammaCare Specialist on July 3, 2008. Julia manages patient care and acts as a resource and supporter from initial contact to breast cancer diagnosis. This includes biopsy scheduling and follow-up. She also manages grants from the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the American Cancer Society. She will use her MammaCare training to perform clinical breast exams prior to biopsy and to provide BSE training to women in the community as part of a team effort to increase breast health education and screening rates in Cabarrus County.

Julia adores her parents and two younger brothers, all of whom live in Birmingham, AL. She has a Boston Terrier and loves to be outdoors and near the water.

Magdalena Oxendine, B.A., Certified MammaCare BSE Instructor and Training Coordinator for the Mammatech Corporation in Gainesville, FL., acquired her Specialists Certificate on July 3, 2008. Magda is a native of Poland and has been employed by Mammatech for nearly a year and a half. She coordinates all the details of MammaCare professional training, both in Gainesville and all the other sites, including Europe.

Magda is married and has two dogs who she spoils in addition to her husband. She enjoys traveling, especially her annual visits to Poland to visit her family.

Sharon D. Rabuck, R.N., M.S.N., O.C.N., Patient Care Coordinator of Breast Health Services in the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA,. became a MammaCare Specialist on March 20, 2008. Sharon supervises nurses on three different sites and will use MammaCare to improve the quality of CBE performed by these individuals.  She will also teach them to conduct better BSE training.

Sharon is single, likes traveling and is very happy with her organization.

Sandra Cassell-Corbin, R.N., C.N.P., oncology nurse practitioner and breast health specialist in the Holzer Center for Cancer Care in Gallipolis, OH, earned her MammaCare Specialist's credential on November 28, 2007. Sandra functions as a breast health navigator and as the breast specialist in the clinic. She will use MammaCare to teach better clinical technique to the physicians and other staff in her facility.

Sandra is married, and resides in Point Pleasant with her son, daughter, two dogs and two cats.

 


Sandra Cassell-Corbin
Deborah L. Aventi, R.N., B.S.N., Breast Health Center Coordinator in Doctors Hospital of Manteca, CA, became a MammaCare Specialist on November 28, 2007. Deborah coordinates the breast health program, oversees patients through the entire process from diagnosis through treatment, and provides community outreach with respect to breast health. She will use MammaCare to enhance her clinical skills in addition to instructing patients in proficient BSE.

Deborah has three grown sons and one grandson. She lives with her husband in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Northern California. She enjoys sewing and gardening.


Deborah L. Aventi
Karen Jacobs, N.P.-C., Family Certified Nurse Practitioner and certified breast health navigator with Beverly Hospital at Danvers in Danvers, MA., joined the MammaCare family on November 8, 2007. Karen sees patients referred to the breast center for abnormal mammograms and coordinates appointments for patients in a multidisciplinary clinic. She also runs a support group for breast cancer patients and does some genetic counseling. She will use MammaCare to enhance her proficiency at CBE and to introduce proficient self-examination in the community.

Karen is married and has 7 year-old twins along with a five-year-old son. She enjoys reading, knitting and making jewelry.

Arati M. Shirali, M.D., Senior Specialist Breast Surgeon at Al Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi, UAE, earned her MammaCare Specialist’s pin on November 8, 2007. Dr. Shirali has been certified by the Royal College of Surgeons for Advanced Breast Disease Management and Oncoplastic Breast Surgery. Although trained in Europe, she credits her Indian origins for her extraordinary tactile sensitivity. She will use MammaCare to help her detect early lesions in younger women and to offer her patients the opportunity to learn proficient BSE.

Arati is married and has a 4 year-old son. She loves reading, writing poetry, the beauty of nature, and traveling to different cultures.
