The Mammatech Corporation completed
a research project sponsored by the National Cancer Institute to adapt
MammaCare for women who are blind or visually impaired. After
nationwide testing, the Adaptive MammaCare Learning System is available
to the public at an affordable price.
Using a n
adapted, tactually accurate breast
model with audio or video instructions, a woman can learn
to conduct proficient, skill-based breast self-examination (BSE) in
the privacy of her own home or in her health care professional's office
or clinic.
The Adaptive Personal Learning System
for Women Who Are Blind or Visually
Impaired Includes:

-
A
patented, tactually accurate model with a ribbon "necklace" helps keep
the model correctly positioned during training. The model has raised
markers to guide the woman while examining the model. The model contains
small lumps that are virtually impossible to detect without training.
-
The system includes an audiocassette
and a descriptive video that teach proficient BSE through a series of
carefully designed exercises, conducted first on the model and then
on the woman herself. The kit also contains a large print booklet and
Braille instructions.
