The Mammatech Corporation, parent company of MammaCare®, was selected as a winner in the 10th annual National Health Information Awards. This program recognizes the nation’s best consumer health information programs and materials.

The MammaCare Personal Learning System with Open Captions, designed to teach proficient breast self-examination to women who are deaf or hard of hearing, received a Merit Award for Health Promotion/Disease and Injury Prevention Information. The system was developed and tested with the support of the National Cancer Institute. Those involved in the design, testing, and production of the MammaCare Personal Learning System with Open Captions are Dr. Mary Ann Mehn, Dr. Mark K. Goldstein, and Dr. Henry Pennypacker.

"We were delighted to participate in the National Health Information Awards Program and were honored to be selected as a winner," said Dr. Goldstein. "Our winning entry was among the nearly 1,100 entries judged by a national panel of health information experts."

The awards program is coordinated by the Health Information Resource Center, a national clearinghouse for consumer health information programs and materials. The Center, which houses a large collection of public and private sector materials, promotes the distribution of accurate, timely consumer health information materials to professionals and managers in the field.

The MammaCare Personal Learning System with Open Captions includes a patented, tactually accurate MammaCare breast model, a 45-minute videotape, and an instruction manual.

The model is available in either of two skin tones.
